- This short hike loops around the upland forest and has several upland forest plants identified. An interpretive photo field guide is available from the Interpretive Center for use on this short walk. There are several trails which take you down to the Slough. The longest is a moderate three-mile loop down the watershed and back. The North Creek trail descends by a gentle grade through a temperate rain forest, terminating at the shore of the Sloughside Marsh and Winchester Creek. This trail provides outstanding opportunities to observe wildlife in the South Slough. To preserve viewing opportunities for all visitors and reduce impacts to wildlife, dogs are not permitted on the North Creek Trail. The North Creek Trail connects by a footbridge to trails on the opposite side of Sloughside Marsh, allowing for an approximately 4.5 mile loop that begins and ends at the South Slough Interpretive Center.
